The 10 year old murderer was known for having anger issues. (Family Devastated, Union-Tribune San Diego, Wednesday, 2012).
Enquirers should look at the first life experience of the boy. Children who do not have consistently responsive and sensitive caregivers often develop into insecure individuals, characterized by anxious, avoidant, and/or ambivalent interactions.
(Quote) “Among parents of infants these days, there is constant debate about how to respond to a baby’s cries. On one hand, there are proponents of the “cry it out” method, where the baby is left alone to cry in the hopes that he or she will eventually stop. On the other hand, there are the “attachment parents” who respond immediately to their crying babies and attempt to soothe them using various methods including holding and cuddling. While the cry-it-out method (CIO) has been popular in previous years, attachment parenting (AP) is gaining a foothold among new parents today. Results of studies in psychology indicate the AP approach to crying is most likely to result in an emotionally and physically healthy child.” (End quote from: http://www.drbenkim.com/articles-attachment-parenting.html)

Homeland Security published the following: (Quote) “During a typical year in the United States, 30,000 to 50,000 people die as a result of influenza viral infection. Frequently cited numbers are 20,000 deaths each year. About 5-10% of hospitalizations for influenza lead to fatal outcome in adult. Pandemic years are associated with many more cases of influenza and a higher case fatality rate than that seen in seasonal flu outbreaks.........It is common to encounter clinical attack rate ranges for seasonal flu of 5% to 15%. For pandemic flu, clinical attack rates are reported in the range of 25% to 50%.” (end quote).
The CDC Says, “Take 3 Steps To Fight The Flu".

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) urges you to take three steps to protect yourself and others from the flu: A yearly vaccination, antiviral prescription drugs and some common sense precautions like washing hands and avoiding close contact with sick people.

In its Vaccine Safety Datalink the CDC insist vaccination is a safe procedure. The statement is followed by a list of references to publications negating or downplaying possible side effects of vaccination like seizures, aseptic meningitis, anaphylaxis, inflammatory bowel disease, autism, asthma, diabetes type I, multiple sclerosis, ischemic stroke, However there are numerous publication indicating vaccination is not always without side effects and adverse reactions; A search in Google with the key words "Flu" and "side effects" produces more than 600 references on the topic and a search at the scientific information web site Scirus shows more than 100 publications warning of possible side effects of the flu vaccination.

Comments from the Longevity Institute

The short 2009 outbreak of the “swine” virus in Mexico is a reminder that we have to protect ourselves the best way we can from the next seasonal flu, now that a new mixture of two viruses has emerged that may become more virulent than what we have been exposed to previously.

Then we have a question: "Is the flu vaccination the best way to protect ourselves?"
The question arises not so much from the possible side effects of any vaccination than from the fact that the flu virus is one of the most versatile viruses because it has that inherent capacity to mutate very fast. Such property entails that the virus that may hit you has had plenty time to evolve from and become different from the virus used to produce the vaccine. With a flu shot you may become immune to the virus that was used to produce the vaccine, but perhaps not to the virus that is invading you !

The question now becomes: " How to immunize against the invading virus?"

There is a natural and inexpensive way to do it;

1 - With Vitamin D

Have you ever wondered why flu outbreaks always develop in the winter? The fact has puzzled researchers for a long time. The reason may well be winter is a time when people have less sun exposure and make less vitamin D.

The hypothesis is supported by research; There is a causal link between vitamin D deficiency and the flu and people with low vitamin D levels have more upper respiratory infections.

The hypothesis of a causal link between vitamin D deficiency and flu is also supported by clinical observations like the report by Dr J.J. Cannell MD describing what happened in his ward during a flu epidemic episode. (quote): ". ..as the epidemic progressed, I noticed something unusual. First, the ward below mine was infected, and then the ward on my right, left, and across the hall - but no patients on my ward became ill. My patients had intermingled with patients from infected wards before the quarantines. The nurses on my unit cross-covered on infected wards. Surely, my patients were exposed to the influenza A virus. How did my patients escape infection from what some think is the most infectious of all the respiratory viruses?... ... All of the patients on my ward had been taking 2,000 units of vitamin D every day for several months or longer." (end quote)

Vitamin D appears to be a potent anti-infectious agent. It is now well established that the cells of the immune system have receptors for 1,25-(OH)2D3, the end product of vitamin D intake or of sun exposure, and the role of vitamin D in immunity is beginning to be defined. Quite recently, three independent groups have reported that vitamin D triggers the release of these powerful natural antibiotics called antimicrobial peptides. It appears now vitamin D might be, in effect, a potent antibiotic.

2 - With Selenium

Back in 1978, Professor Gerhard N. Schrauzer was the first to publish that a selenium supplementation of the host inhibits virus replication. In an original experiment with a strains of mice exhibiting a normal incidence of virus induced mammary adenocarcinoma of 80-100% the tumor incidence was found to drop to 42% if animals of the same strain were kept on a diet containing 0.45 ppm of selenium. The "viral selenoprotein theory." of Prof. Schrauzer entails that certain viruses interact directly with selenium in the host cells by incorporating selenium into viral genome proteins that down regulate viral replication.

In a selenium deprived host unrestricted viral replication may overwhelm immune response. In a host with adequate selenium viral replication is much slower allowing the immune system time to build an efficient defense.

The original theory of Professor Schrauzer, never disproved, is further supported by new developments. Researchers at the University of North Carolina have recently found that mutation of the viral genome in selenium deficient mice result in (quote): "a novel virulent strain that causes severe lung pathology" and: "We observed 29 nucleotide changes in that gene. All 29 were identical in three different viral isolated fron selenium-deficient mice studied, and one viral isolate from a selenium deficient mouse showed five additional mutations." (end quote). It should be noted that mutations can occur only during replication. A greater mutation rate implies a greater replication rate, confirming the initial findings of Prof. Schrauzer.

In a selenium deprived host unrestricted viral replication creates more virulent strains. In a host with adequate selenium viral replication is much slower opposing virulence increase..

Furthermore, it is admitted today that the the spread of avian influenza over the world is related to local selenium deficiencies. In China the spread of avian flu occurs in low selenium areas. It has also been proven recently that pulmonary complications are more severe in a selenium deprived organism.

3 - With Probiotics

Probiotics improve the body's resistance to infection and stimulates the immune system and in a recent study researchers found that probiotics specifically increases the body's immune response to the flu virus.

Recommendation from the Longevity Institute

Increase your resistance by taking daily a good mix of minerals and vitamins inclusive 2,000 IU of vitamin D and add to it 100 micrograms of selenium per 60 lbs bodyweight with a maximum of 300 micrograms per day. It is recommended to start this regimen three months before the possible onset of the next seasonal flu epidemic.

Vitamin D will boost your overall immune response and, if you are hit by the flu virus, the selenium shall slow down the viral replication in such a way as to let your immune system immunize you against the invading virus.

Quoted from Charles Dharapa In USA TODAY:
President Obama opened a White House conference on school bullying today by saying that all Americans -- parents, teachers, coaches, and people in general -- have a responsibility to make sure children are not threatened or intimidated by their peers.
Bullying is not "a harmless rite of passage," but can have "destructive consequences for our young people" -- from poor grades to suicide.
"Sometimes we've turned a blind eye to the problem," Obama said.

During this time, I would like to blow the whistle about a custom having a greater destructive effect than the bullying of children by their peers since it involves harmless babies exposed to the absentminded routine of adults.
Why do we let so many newborns cry endlessly in maternity wards and later in the isolation of their crib? Our handling of premature babies is even worse. Instead of enjoying their mother, they spend the first weeks of their existence out of the womb in the solitary confinement of an incubator.

About 25,000 inmates are in solitary confinement in US prisons.
Dr. Stuart Grassian, a Board Certified Psychiatrist, describes how solitary confinement of a prisoner alone in a cell, with minimal environmental and social interaction, causes “severe psychiatric harm subsiding upon termination of the confinement”.
The conclusion of Dr. Grassian is that the restriction of environmental stimulation and social isolation associated with solitary confinement are strikingly toxic to mental functioning: “producing a stuporous condition associated with perceptual and cognitive impairment and affective disturbances”.
Read the full article of Dr. Grassian and a report on solitary confinement by Atul Gawande of the New Yorker

Comments from the Longevity Institute.

If an adult brain is fragile enough to be damaged by solitary confinement, should one not expect an identical or greater damage to the brain of a infant?
But why should the solitary confinement of children be of any concern? That is not conceivable in our society. It would be considered child abuse.
You think so? Think twice.

Solitary confinement of children is common practice;
- We routinely separate newborns from their mother during the night and let them cry endlessly in maternity wards and later at home in their own rooms. In our society we tend to assume that such behavior is normal procedure, ignoring or negating the fact that solitude is frightening for newborns and that exposing them repeatedly to it disturbs their brain development and may have consequences later in life exactly like those for adults*

Much worse is the condition of premature babies.
- Each year in the US, more than half a million premature babies spend their fragile first weeks in the solitary confinement of an incubator rather than in the active and familiar environment of their mothers' womb.
Their condition is much more traumatic than the condition of full term newborns, because where the latter, isolated in the maternity ward and then later in their rooms, may complain of not being with their mother, the formers suffers from no longer being in their mothers.
Not only have they been abruptly and prematurely displaced from their mothers' womb, they are then completely deprived of her voice, her heartbeat, and the sounds of her respiration, bowel and of the family environment. As soon as they have survived the most detrimental and stressful event thus far in their new lives (birth), premature newborns are no longer stimulated and comforted by all the movements and sounds they were used to feel and hear in their mother. Instead, they lay, confused, frightened, alone and motionless in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit incubator full of whistles and blows of machines.

* Intolerance to social interaction, agitation, self-destructive behavior, hyper-response to external stimuli, perceptual distortions, illusions, and hallucinations, panic attacks, difficulties with thinking, concentration and memory, intrusive obsessive thoughts, aggressive ruminations, overt paranoia and problems with impulse control.

In nature no mammal ever obstructed the blood circulation of her newborn.
Why do we, humans, prematurely clamp the umbilical cord of our babies?
Do we know better than Mother nature?

In the womb a baby relies on his placenta for oxygen (and nutrient) supply.

The volume of blood (1) flowing to the placenta in the two umbilical arteries, (2) circulating in the placenta and (3) flowing from the placenta back into the baby represent a sizable part of the babies total blood volume.
After birth, the baby will have to use his lungs for oxygenation, which is to say that he has to switch part of his blood circulation from the placenta to the lungs.
During that switch the placenta gradually empties while the blood vessels of the lungs slowly enlarge as to accept the blood that no longer flows to the placenta.
Meanwhile the newborn starts inhaling very progressively, by little increments, while dribbling some fluid out of his airways and each time expanding his lungs a little more.

The switch is progressive and can take a few minutes to complete. The whole process unfolds naturally and needs NO assistance.

Clamping the umbilical cord BEFORE the end of the switch not only robs the newborn of part of his blood, it also abruptly suppresses his oxygen supply.
To avoid suffocation the newborn has no other resource than to explodes in a brutal respiratory effort. The process is painful and makes the baby cry loudly.

More reasons to improve childbirth

Recently, Dr. Mercola came up with an informative page about heartburn. As rightfully described by Dr. Mercola—and previously by Dr. Joel Wallach, acid reflux does not result from too much acid. On the contrary, acid deficiency allows bacteria and yeast to grow in the stomach. They generate gas resulting in reflux and belching.

Recommendation from the Longevity Institute

- One or two tablespoons of the following old Vermont folk medicine remedy in a glass of fresh water helps lessen the severity of the stomach pain and the bloating. The Vermont folk medicine remedy is made of one volume of liquid honey mixed with one volume of organic apple cider vinegar.
The vinegar helps restore the stomach acidity and the honey attenuates the sour taste of the vinegar.
Shake well and store refrigerated.

- It is also recommended:

A) To always chew food thoroughly. Introducing saliva into the food as you chew will get the digestion process off to a good start.
B) Not to drink very much liquid while eating a meal. Also trying to limit fluids for 30 minutes before you eat and for an hour afterward.
C) Not to overeat. Leave that extra little bit of room for dessert, and then skip it.
D) To eliminate from the diet foods that have refined sugars. Sugars tend to destabilize the stomach, decreasing the efficiency of the digestion and creating gas.
E)To avoid caffeine and fried foods. Caffeine stops starch digestion and can impair acid production.

The review article: "The Enigma of Spontaneous Preterm Birth", publishes February 11, 2010 by the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), concludes that inflammation plays a major role in preterm childbirth and suggests researching how (quote) "...host-microbe interactions shape the immune response, possibly increasing or decreasing the likelihood that an inflammatory response will be directed against the fetus..." (end quote).

COMMENTS:
1 - The inflammation process that plays a major role in preterm childbirth could well be the result of the sugar and essential omega-6 fatty acids excess in our diet.
An Excess of sugar (hyperglycemia) is a potent inflammatory agent and the omega-6 essential fatty acids exaggerate the immune response to inflammation.

2 - The article rightfully states that the medical approach to increased preterm childbirth results in more premature babies staying alive but that preterm childbirth: (quote) "remains costly in terms of both the suffering of infants and their families..." (end quote).
