Premature Childbirth and Diet

September 5th, 2010

The review article: The Enigma of Spontaneous Preterm Birth”, publishes February 11, 2010 by the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), concludes that inflammation plays a major role in preterm childbirth and suggests researching how (quote) “…host-microbe interactions shape the immune response, possibly increasing or decreasing the likelihood that an inflammatory response will be directed against the fetus...” (end quote).

COMMENTS:
1 – The inflammation process that plays a major role in preterm childbirth could well be the result of the sugar and essential omega-6 fatty acids excess in our diet.
An Excess of sugar (hyperglycemia) is a potent inflammatory agent and the omega-6 essential fatty acids exaggerate the immune response to inflammation.

2 – The article rightfully states that the medical approach to increased preterm childbirth results in more premature babies staying alive but that preterm childbirth: (quote) “remains costly in terms of both the suffering of infants and their families…” (end quote).

Alzheimer News: Misinformation by Omission

August 29th, 2010

August 28, 2010, the New-York Times published a well structured article by Gina Kolata: “Years Later, No Magic Bullet Against Alzheimer’s Disease”
That article, however, totally ignores the ground breaking discovery by Lisa Mosconi that, says the Longevity institute, could open doors to possible prevention of the devastating condition. Read more.

Mercury in Fish?..Relax!

August 22nd, 2010

Last time I met professor Gerhard N. Schrauzer at his Biological Trace Element Research Institute we were talking about mercury in fish and the claimed danger of eating fish particularly for pregnant women.

According to Professor Schrauzer, “the health benefits of fish greatly outweigh any risk associated with their mercury content, since the mercury in them is present as a complex with selenium, rendering it harmless. This was known already in the 1970s. What needs to be emphasized is that selenium is a natural antidote of mercury, and since in most fish selenium is present in excess over mercury, fish are good nutritional sources of this vitally important trace element. But those who still worry about the mercury in fish should consume sardines and other small fish as these contain only very small amounts of mercury.”

Crying Newborns

August 14th, 2010

Why do many newborn babies cry so loud, expressing anger and fear?

Could it be that they are protesting the way that they are being treated by the reception team?
Can we improve childbirth?

Statins in chewing gum?

August 13th, 2010

Why not? It may be the next idea of a crazy physician.
One of them already recommends statins in fast food…

Concerning the “usefulness” of Statins drugs, read Dr Mercola.
If it is not cholesterol clogging the arteries, then what causes hearth attack?

A Sweet Measure

July 30th, 2010

They intend to regulate salt in processed food to protect our health as they say…How sweet of them. What about a regulation of the sugar and fructose excess in food and drinks? Would’ that be a sweeter measure?

Commentator Bias

July 30th, 2010

The co-author of the paper “ADHD Is Associated With a ‘Western’ Dietary Pattern in Adolescents”, Dr. Wendy Oddy said in her comments:
“Our analysis found that higher levels of behavior and emotional problems were associated with a more Western-style way of eating, namely a diet high in takeaway foods, red meat, confectionary, soft drinks, white bread and unrefined cereals,”

Out of this press commentator Jess Halliday makes:
“A new study from Australia has suggested that ADHD in adolescents could be linked to Western diets, which tend to be high in total fat, saturated fat, refined sugar and sodium.”

Comments of the Longevity Institute

Thus, whatever the conclusion of a study may be, brain washed commentators still adhere to the obsolete fat, saturated fat and sodium myths and see a confirmation of that legend even in a research paper that does not mention it…

Heartburn

June 5th, 2010

Dr. Mercola came up with an informative page about heartburn As rightfully described by Dr. Mercola—and previously by Dr. Joel Wallach, acid reflux does not result from too much acid. On the contrary, acid deficiency allows bacteria and yeast to grow in the stomach. They generate gas resulting in reflux and belching.

Recommendation of the Longevity Institute
One or two tablespoons of the following old Vermont folk medicine remedy in a glass of fresh water helps lessen the severity of the stomach pain and the bloating. The Vermont folk medicine remedy is made of one volume of liquid honey mixed with one volume of organic apple cider vinegar. The vinegar helps restore the stomach acidity and the honey attenuates the sour taste of the vinegar- Shake well and store refrigerated.

Oil Concern

May 31st, 2010

To Much Oil
Everyone talks about the ecosystem endangered by the oil spill in the gulf of Mexico. How many do care about their internal ecosystem exposed to excessive oil consumption?.
